This painting/mural - "Johnsonville South Carolina 1911" by John Carroll Doyle - was unveiled at Anderson State Bank in 1981 at the opening of the Hemingway branch. Doyle was a prominent Charleston artist who passed away in 2014. The work depicts Johnsonville founder Sylvester Briley Poston as lots were laid out and sold at the Johnsonville Land Sale in 1912. -

Lamar D. Bradley served as principal of The Stuckey School during it's entire lifetime (1954-1969). After integration, he served as the assistant superintendent of the new Florence District 5. -

Lamuel Carter (1906-1944) sits with his dogs on the steps of his family home in Vox, mid-1930s. Lamuel was the son of Morgan Ham Carter and Octavia "Sissy" Stone. he was married to Elise Baxley.
Lamuel was severely diabetic and died young from complications of diabetes.

Last Will and Testiment of John Witherspoon, 1802
John Witherspoon inherited Witherspoon's Ferry from his brother, Robert Witherspoon. His will in 1802 states that the Ferry should continue to operate in benefit of Aimwell Church under the care of his executor, John D. Witherspoon. His daughter Elizabeth Witherspoon is also mentioned. William Johnson is listed as well as having leasing rights to the Ferry land as long as the trustees mentioned in the will agree to his wisdom and he conducts himself with propriety. -

Last will and testiment of Captain William James Johnson (1787-1851), founder of Johnsonville, SC.
Specific reference to Johnson's Ferry:
"I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah Johnson my dwelling house house and other buildings, and all the tract of land on which I now live, lying on Lynches Creek. I mean all the Ferry tract on both sides of the Creek, including the Ferry, her lifetime only; and at her death to be equally divided between my son James H. Johnson and my daughter Sarah C. Johnson."
Daughter Margaret Ann Johnson Grier is also mentioned. -

James Lewis owned the business in the 1990s. Earlier, it was knows as Hunts. Many local businessmen and other patrons stopped here for a cold beer and a hotdog. -

Location of Aimwell Presbyterian Church
Aimwell Presbyterian Church was located along what is now Old River Road, approximately at the intersection of Old River Road and McWhite Circle. The approximate coordinates are 33°56'28.2"N 79°29'50.4"W.
The Aimwell burial ground still exists and is the resting place of John Witherspoon, whose family operated Witherspoon's Ferry during the American Revolution.
Aimwell is incorrectly listed as Hopewell in the Robert Mills Map of Marion District, 1825.
