WKYB-AM. The station was located in Hemingway and was a low power AM station. WKYB was required by the FCC to sign off at sunset so as not to interfere with larger stations at night.

Hi Josh,

   WKYB was a HIGH power station of 10,000 watts on clear channel am 1000. I worked there many years as Mike Stevens. I miss the Hemingway - Johnsonville area and was sorry to heaf the station closed.

WKYB signed on in The Spring took over airwaves very popular in the beginning taking audiences by storm....Played popular music listened to by the younger crowd...Very talented announcers who came mostly from the Columbia South Carolina area...Started off 5000 watts increased to 10 thousand later...

Times changes FM took a stand ....Local advertising dollars .....were hard more stations signing on the FM dial....Myrtle Beach and Georgetown radio market grew...
