Nancy Lee Huggins

Elizabeth Timmons Huggins became a ledgend in her community when she decided to travel to Virgina from Muddy Creek, SC to bring her husband home after he was injured in the Second Battle of Manassas on August 30, 1862. Two days after she got the news, she was on the road to Virginia driving a mule and wagon to rescue Samuel. She brought Samuel home and nursed him back to health. She made this courageous journey alone. Her story inspired a book about her journey. The book is fiction, based on the true story in our family history and was written by her great grandson, Dr. Roger Allen Davis. When I come Home was published in 2001 and is available in local libraries.
