Mrs. Minnie ·qibson
of
Hemingway,
who
is
retired
after
.

teaching 47 years in the p.u blic sc~ools of Hemingway,
has a special place in her den for the mementoes she
received from her students while a classroom teacher.
Mrs. Gibson said recently that wlien he.- students g8ve
her hose or handkerchiefs she would naturally use them,
b.ut when they presented her gifts such as little picthers,
·cups-and saucers .or figurines she has kept them over tile
years, and added that each -has a story tO tell and ''they
are very precious to me.'' She said back when she was
teaching mothers would give their little children a dime
or quarter and say, ''Run up town· and buy ''Mss Minnie''
a birthday or Christmas pres~nt.'' She not~d the Children
would.squeeze their ·money in their little hands until they
could decide what to buy. ''Each treasure is precious to
me, Coming from little dirty h''ands; little wet halids, or
sweet little .hands freshly s.crubbed, '' she said. Mrs.
Gibson said.it takes a filll morning to .t ake them all down,
wash them and put them back in place, but no matter
how time consuming, they are special.
